The TEDWomen Letters Project

TEDWomen is a conference full of inspiring ideas, stories, visions — but what do we do with that energy and inspiration?

So keeping this in mind the TEDWomen community introduced “The TEDWomen Letter Project.” In which a person who feel a moment of deep inspiration to action watching the TEDWomen feed or watching live at a TEDx or following the news on Twitter or the TED Blog, might write a letter of 50 words or so to the speaker who made them feel that way. This will let the speaker know what their story means to them.

If you are inspired to make a pledge or inspired to join their cause? Let them know. Are you inspired by the speaker to do something new in your own life, your own community? Tell the speaker about your commitment.

Send your letters to:

letters@ted.com

and put the speaker’s name in the subject line. We’ll pass the letters on.

TED WOMEN

TEDWOMEN cartoon – by Liza Donnelly

Strongly believing in the fact that the empowerment and recognition of the better half of the world’s ancient duo – Men and Women, TEDxSALEM, organizes this TEDxSALEMWOMEN conference.

The event is also marked by the speech of Mrs.Chitra who will enlighten the audience about Women Empowerment. Mrs.Chitra is known for the way she entangles the audience with her eloquence, knowledge and mostly by the way she carries the session ahead. Eagerly waiting to be drenched in the delight to listen to her.

This will be followed by the live streaming of TED WOMEN conference.

Along with TED’s curatorial partner The Paley Center for Media, have planned a program that’s wide-ranging and unexpected, introducing people and ideas you haven’t encountered before, along with iconic leaders offering new insight. Some of these include:

Pioneers rethinking national systems, from Icelandic economist Halla Tomasdottir, charged with rebuilding her country’s economy, to India’s pioneering prison supervisor Kiran Bedi, to Liberian president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, rebuilding her country after years of war.

Game-changing inventors, from MIT roboticist Cynthia Breazeal, who’s rethinking how machines can act more like humans, to Ugandan farmer Annet Namayanja, who’s bred a new kind of protein-rich bean.

Extraordinary individuals, like Lemeria Ole, a Masai father who has never before left his village in Kenya, but wanted to share his ideas about the value of educating daughters rather than selling them into marriage. Or the “9/11 mothers” Aicha El-Wafi and Phyllis Rodriguez, who forged an unlikely friendship after losing their sons to acts of terrorism.

Creative, collaborative partners like National Geographic filmmakers Beverly and Dereck Joubert and Babble.com founders Rufus Griscom and Alisa Volkman.

Media magnates like CNN founder Ted Turner … Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg … Sun Television co-owner Yang Lan (known in the US as “China’s Oprah”).

Inspired, purpose-driven artists, like Benin-born musician Angelique Kidjo … Iranian filmmaker/artist Shirin Neshat … playwright Eve Ensler, the founder of V-Day

Powerful forces in politics and diplomacy, including Nobel Peace Prize winner Jody Williams … former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright … and Rep. Nancy Pelosi.

International thinkers like global health guru Hans Rosling and National Geographic explorer Elizabeth Lindsey

TEDWomen will be held December 7-8, 2010, in Washington, DC. The conference is sold out, but you can still take part in what promises to be the most talked-about TED in years:

Mrs. Chitra Lakshmi – TEDxSALEMWOMEN

Mrs.Chitra graduated in English Literature at Sri Sarada College, topping the class. Her marriage in 1978 led to an 8 year period of happy home keeping. Her alma mater took her into her fold as a teacher which helped her discover that she loved teaching. She received her Bachelor of Education degree with English and Special English and post graduation in English Literature at Annamalai University and Diploma in Geography. She discovered her passion in research, which amalgamated the value education that she had taught at school and her interest in children’s literature.  In 2002, she began designing materials for imparting value education using J.K.Rowling’s Harry Potter novels as her project, which resulted in a Ph.D from Anna University, Chennai in 2007. The five year long work was highly commended by her reviewers.

Awards and Recognisitions :

She received the prestigious “First Time Speaker Award (2002)” from the British Council of India. She had participated and presented three research papers at International conferences. She has published 2 research papers in an International journal and one in a National Journal, 13 papers at National level conferences and seminars. She has conducted ten sessions and workshops for teachers and college students of various colleges at Faculty Development Programs and at training programs. She is a member of ELTAI, ELTEC and SIG (Special Interest Group) Computer Technology. She has played a major role in establishing a state- of- the- art language lab at the college where she works. She is co-authoring a book right now. She is a blogger and maintains podcast.

From the day we met her for the event, she has always extended a never ending enthusiasm and did ignite the spark of seeing things in a more broader and optimistic perspective. A note of caution to the attendees, she can sweep you off your feet with her eloquence and be aware that she does make you laugh and think at the same time, which we are not that used to. 🙂

Hans Rosling: The good news of the decade?

exciTED….

TEDxSALEM is here…… The most awaited event of the city….  Rather than seeing the fact that TED had ideas worth spreading, it was more like TED by itself is an idea that is worth spreading. That lead us to TEDxSALEM.  We are a group of like minds who wished to take TED to the Salem community and believed TED can make THE difference that was the need of the hour. There is more to this group than the like mind. Each had a never ending passion for TED and of course the society. To be more specific each had their own perception of how TED can change the world we live in. None can deny their views were truly inspired by TED Talks..

FascinaTED by the makers of the world and TED

ExciTED to announce the GRANDEUR – TEDxSALEM.

The wave is ready to engulf SALEM on DEC 8,2010.
